The Off-Court Half: What Padel Players Should Actually Do in the Gym

18 August 2026 9 min read

Padel is short, repeated, awkward efforts: split-step, accelerate, decelerate, rotate, recover, repeat. A gym plan built around straight-line running and machine circuits misses almost all of that.

Start from the padel goal. A stronger smash needs lower-body force, hip and trunk rotational capacity, and a shoulder that tolerates repeated high-velocity work. Faster net play needs deceleration and change-of-direction quality far more than extra conditioning.

Order matters: control before strength, strength before speed, speed before fatigue. Skipping steps is how players end up powerful in the gym and unchanged on court.

If an exercise cannot be traced back to a padel outcome, it does not belong in the plan.
